Are you looking to save some pennies while shopping? Well, you've come to the right place. I've got five tips and tricks that are guaranteed to help you bag a bargain.
If there is one thing that University taught me, it's how to budget, bargain and budget some more. We are all guilty of fishing out a good bargain when possible, whether its BOGOF on ice cream at the supermarket, 3 for 2 on makeup products at Superdrug or a cheeky free chicken off your Nando's loyalty card. While it's the shop's job to make money, it's ours to make sure we keep as much of it in our pockets as we can.
So, here's a list of simple but smart shopping tips and tricks that will guarantee you a bargain and top hustler status.
CHECK PRICE TAGS FOR PENCIL MARKS
The next time you pick up some clothes and check the price tag be sure to have a closer look. In the lead up to sale seasons, shop staff often scribble numbers or letters on price tags. These markings basically mean that the item is due to go in to the sale at a reduced price, so you might want to hold off on buying for two or three days.
LEAVE ITEMS IN YOUR ONLINE BASKET
Do you ever browse through your favourite online shops, add absolutely everything and anything to your basket and rack up an unhealthy total that you simply cannot afford? Same.
Fortunately, I've got a handy little hack for ya. When you abandon your online order for a few days, companies often like to send you discount codes in order to tempt you back. All you have to do is sign in, add what you like to your basket, leave the site and then check your email over the next few days to see if you have been treated to a discount voucher.
Although this hack is a bit of a gamble, if you're lucky enough you can have anything from 5-50% off of your favourite brands land in your inbox. Result!
HEAD TO BARGAIN STORES FOR SOME MAKE UP STEALS
For the make up obsessors out there, this is a great way to add to your collection. Try hitting stores such as B&M, Home Bargains and even Poundland for seriously reduced make up. They often stock discontinued products from Rimmel, Maybelline, L'Oreal and W7 at ridiculously low prices. There may not be much to choose from in terms of products and shades, but hey, you might nab yourself a winner.
ALWAYS COMPARE ONLINE
This one is especially good if you're looking to buy tech, gadget-y things. More than often gadget stores will have special online offers for certain products. Make sure you check online before heading to the shop or purchasing in order to save yourself some pennies.
USE YOUR STUDENT DISCOUNT
Last but not least, student discount. It's one of the most obvious ways to land a bargain, yet so many people forget about it. If you're still lucky enough to be a holder of a student ID and discount, my advice to you is to use it as much as possible - most high street stops offer 10-15% off, which actually makes all the difference. If like me you're no longer a student (crying on the inside), you can always ask nicely to use someone else's *hint hint*...
