Fed up of useless beauty hacks? Here are my favourite beauty tips and tricks that actually work.
When it comes to beauty, we all have our weird and wonderful ways of how we go about things. From the classic ugly mascara face to using baby powder as a dry shampoo to the bank card eyeliner trick. I am always on the lookout for a handy hack to not only help me improve my beauty skills but so that I can also save time (and £££ of course). I can't say that every hack I have come across has been the most helpful or practical - I mean, applying my foundation with an egg? Come on. But I have managed to pick up some wicked tips and tricks along the years.
So, here's seven beauty hacks that I KNOW actually work and I personally use on a daily basis.
from low coverage to high coverage
If you have a foundation that isn't quite as full coverage as you would like it to be then you should deffo give this a go. Grab a pressed powder - I use my Rimmel Stay Matte powder - and gently scrape of the top layer on to a flat surface. You should now have what looks like a loose powder! Mix this in with a few pumps of your low coverage foundation, making sure there is no lumps and then apply as normal! Voilá, you now have a full coverage foundation without having to waste a bottle of foundation or spend extra.
Pressed Powder can be Used for baking
Run out of setting powder or can't afford to splurge on some Ben Nye? Using the same technique as before, gently scrape off some of your pressed powder until you have a finely milled loose powder. Dampen and dip your beauty blender in to the loose powder and then use this to bake under your eyes. Leave for 10 mins and wipe away for a flawless make up look.
Apply concealer in a triangle shape
I feel like this is a hack that everyone already knows, but if you don't know, then you need to know! I used to always apply my concealer in a semi-circle shape until I came across this method. By applying your concealer in the shape of an upside down triangle you can really help to brighten up under the eyes more and highlight your face.
USe baby shampoo to wash makeup brushes
Forget the expensive makeup brush cleansers and solutions. All you need to wash your makeup brushes is a bottle of Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Seriously, it works a treat. Your makeup brushes will look brand spanking new and feel super soft.
straighten your plaits for a beachy curl look
There's a super easy way for you to achieve that sexy beach wave curl look. I do this all the time when I can't be bothered to do my hair properly. Simply plait your hair - it can be damp or dry - and make your way down the plait with your straighteners, clamping for about 5-8 seconds. Repeat this one or two times and when you take out your plait you will have beautiful beachy, curly, wavy, hair! Spritz some hairspray to make the curls hold for longer.
Buff your fake tan with an old powder brush
This one is for all my faux bronzed babes. If you're worried about streaks when using self-tan, grab an old powder brush (the bigger the better) and buff out the tan. This will help to evenly distribute the tan and stop it from clinging to places like your wrists and elbows.
USe eyeliner to darken your lashes
This is a great hack for the days when you don't really want to wear make up but you also don't want to look rough as hell. Use a felt tip liner or liquid eyeliner and apply this to your lashes to make them seem darker and fuller.
